Hosting at Tinwood

Tinwood provides hosting to consultancy customers and customers of our partners. If you are just looking for standard, off-the-shelf packages, then a standardised hosting company will probably be sufficient and cheaper than Tinwood's hosting services.

However, if you need something a little more special, with IT admin assistance, then please read on or contact us.

Standard hosting packages may contrain what you want to do. For example, you might need mod_perl but don't want to share the server's memory with other sites. You probably want a dedicated host, but you may not have the skills and resources to administer it directly. Or it may prove cheaper to just outsource dedicated web hosting, but you still want to tweak it to your application requirements.

Tinwood offers hosting to our customers from a standard shell account to dedicated hosts.

Standard Hosting

The standard package, called 'Package 1' provides everything that is needed to host a data-driven, dynamic web-site. mod_perl, mod_php, MySQL, and other typical web development technologies are all provided.

'Package 1' provides a shell account and is on a shared server. Tinwood buys virtual servers from Bytemark Hosting , and the shell accounts are hosted on these servers. Therefore, you get excellent connectivity, fully maintained servers in one of London's top data centres.

A summary of 'Package 1' is as follows:

• 100MB Data Storage (site and databases)
• 2 GBytes per month data transfer (that's thousands of page impressions)
• 100MB Data Backups
• Multiple email accounts, aliases and forwarding
• Multiple virtual hosts within the account storage
• Multiple MySQLdatabases
• PHP, CGI, Perl included.

The current price for this package is £17.45 per quarter or £62.80 per annum (inc 10% discount)

Customised Hosting

A Tinwood shared server is not suitable for running applications such as Zope or Java applications (e.g. JBoss . In this case a dedicated server (either virtual or a whole machine) is required. This is because the resources need to run these powerful, but heavy-weight application servers, exceeds what can be placed inside a shared hosting environment.

Tinwood Ltd can procure and set up a dedicated server, and contract to provide regular software maintenance on it. Please contact us for your requirements.

Tinwood recommends Bytemark Hosting for virtual servers and will work with you to configure, install and maintain any web facing server. This typicall will include facilities such as:

• Configuring the Firewall (iptables)
• Configuring Apache (including virtual hosts, mod_perl, etc).
• Configuring Postfix as a mail server
• Configuring Amavis (the F/OSS anti-spam server) with SpamAssassin.

i.e. everything you need to do to get a safe, secure, non-relaying, internet host up onto the Internet.

Domain Name Registration

Tinwood can arrange, with Bytemark Hosting to register domain names for both standard and customised hosting. Tinwood charges the same price as Bytemark Hosting with a small administration fee.
